5 Signs You May Be Unhappy

Do you know if you are unhappy? Is it unhappiness or just discomfort and unease with your life the way it is? If you have experienced depression, you probably know if you feel unhappy. But what about when you're not feeling depressed? Here are five signs that you may be unhappy and not just in a rut.

You?re disappointed with some aspect of your current life

Your life hasn't turned out as you imagined when you were younger. Something went wrong. Maybe you love certain parts of your life, but are disappointed with how things have turned out.

You don?t feel like you?re [good, smart, rich] enough

You compare yourself to others and feel you don?t measure up. For example, you may compare your income to your neighbors, or someone at church, or feel you are not as fit as the person next to you at the gym or you pass on your daily walk every day. This is a definite sign you?re not happy with who you are.

You dream of being someone else

Other people's lives seem to be better than yours and you wish could trade places, even just for a day. These people don?t have to be rich or famous. You might just wish to trade places with the friend who always seems to have it together or the neighbor who has the happy marriage you crave.

You feel confined

Nothing will change anytime soon and nothing you can do will change it. You can?t get out. You feel like a caged lion. You want to run free and can?t. This feeling can range from a quiet sense of unease to sheer panic and can vary from time to time. It can also manifest as anxiety or depression.

You feel your life is meaningless, without purpose

What?s the point? Nothing matters. You go through life on automatic, finishing task after task, but nothing seems to have meaning. You feel hollow and empty about life in general. What's the point of pursuing any of your dreams?

Are any of these signs familiar for you? If so, you?re most likely deeply unhappy and have been hiding it from yourself. This can be common, if you seem to have a good life. It?s time to admit you?re unhappy and start to make some changes in your life.

What is the first thing you will be doing to make some changes?
