Setting action steps is one of the most important parts of your happiness journey for a reason. You can?t get where you want to go if you don?t have a designated path to take. If you don't take the path, you may get where you are going, but taking detours along the way.
The idea is to break down each of your overall dreams into smaller steps. Many will contain even smaller steps within them. This will allow you to know exactly where you?re headed and what you need to do next.
Assume that one of your dreams is to buy a house. Do you know when you want to buy this house? Are you going to wait five years, then walk into a bank and walk out with a mortgage? No; there are intermediate steps between here and there. So, you need to break the overarching dream of buying a house down into intermediate steps.
How do you do that? List all of the things you need to do before you can qualify for a mortgage. Let?s say you debts, a car loan, and no savings for a down payment. Those are all things you?ll need to remedy before you can buy a house.
Your five-year path of action to buy a house could look something like this:
Year 1 -Save $1,000 emergency fund and pay off medical debt
Year 2 -Pay off credit card debt
Year 3 -Pay off the car loan and save $1,000 for a down payment
Year 4 -Save $4000 for a down payment
Year 5 -Save $5000 for a down payment and buy the house
All these smaller steps must be accomplished before achieving your overall dream of buying and owning your own home..
You can apply to all of your dreams. Break them down into smaller steps so you can see that accomplishments you are makingon the way to your ultimate dream.
